Hi Ron For obvious reasons I can't tell what's most needed in your geographical area. What is sorely lacking in my area is sources of holistic evaluation of client resources, and the support needed for unfolding those resources. We have district nurses who do evaluations for home health services - using a simple form where they also get to put a few x-marks concerning "activities", "getting around" etc., but they really don't know a thing about it, and also have no incitement to go deeper, since "home health/care" is what they are there to evaluate for. Yet this kind of evaluation is all one ever gets, unless you're lucky to arrive home directly from a good rehab.
How wonderful if one could go to one's doctor and say: "Hey, I sure am glad that home health gets me up in my wheelchair in the morning, I also am somewhat surviving on the meals on wheels, but I really would like to find ways to better fulfill my roles in family and society!" (Or more likely: ".... but I really am feeling depressed, useless, isolated, in pain, like a burden....") And doc would say: "Wow, I really can see how you're looking for more meaning in your daily life - sure there's more to life than merely surviving - how would you like it if I signed you up for an OT evaluation, because that is just what OT is about?!" Just daydreaming a bit here across the pond:-) Anything you could use? susanne, denmark PS: Also, some short-stories about how OT has made a difference might be useful?
