I don't know how many OTlist people are also on the OT in Private
Practice Yahoo group that is also hosted by OTnow.com. None the less,
there has been an ongoing discussion on the private practice group about
marketing OT. Here's some background.

I am self-employed as an OT in private practice. I provide ADULT in-home
rehabilitation services. I do NOT provide PT. I've been doing this for
the past three years. Unfortunately, I business is doing very poorly
because I'm not getting referrals. To address this situation, I started
a discussion on the private practice group about marketing my services.
Oh, I should point out that I really dislike (to put it mildly)
marketing and thus I'm not very good at it! So, here where you come in!

Given that I work in a PT dominated professional world, I want to be
able to approach doctor's offices and say "hey, this is what I do, and
this is how it's going to help your patients". But "this" must be
different (i.e. perceived as better) than what PT's are already
offering. Also, what I say must make sense to the doctor! I can't give
them some mumbo-jumbo that's going to go in and out their ears. I must
be something that resonates with them. But what is IT?? What is IT that
I can tell an MD that going to create a "light bulb" moment??

All input is appreciated, and I hope that I get a LOT!!!

Thanks,

Ron
