Hi Ron,

That reminded me of when I was in OTA school and my Dad was in the hospital.
I worked all day with him to get him independent in bed mobility. Later that
day my brother, a nurse, came in. My Dad said, "Son help me into bed". I
said, "Don't you dare. He knows how to do it himself." But what did he do -
another nurse came in and they used the sheet method to slide him up and he
helped him lie down.

That day I saw a huge difference between OTs and nurses. They help in any
way they can, we train/teach the patient independence even if they have to
struggle a bit.

I'm glad I'm a COTA. I love it when a patient can do for themselves.

I've been working in the schools but am going back to rehab, PRN. Sure hope
I remember how!

Jean Ann

Subject: [OTlist] A Nurse

Over the course of my OT career, I've been called several different
things - namely PT but also aide and doctor. Today I was called
something that was brand new - a nurse!!! I do believe that in over 10
years of treatment, this is the first time a patient referred to me as a
nurse! I *guess* that's better than being called a PT.... maybe <smile>

Ron
