I am an outpatient pediatric OT. I have not yet used the Wii in therapy,
although I would love to! My boss won't buy us one, but I am considering
bringing my own in. I would use the Wii sports games that come with it or
"Super Monkey Ball" or "Mario and Sonic Olympics". Also there is a Wii Fit game
that is coming out which would be really good to use not to mention Guitar Hero
or Rock Band. Guitar Hero would be good for fine motor skills. Rock Band isn't
yet out for Wii but it will be good for bilateral coordination and visual motor
control and direction following. Super Monkey Ball would be great for visual
motor control, direction following and grading of movement. Mario and Sonic
Olympics would be good for visual motor control, bilateral motor coordination,
direction following and even endurance or sustaining of tasks.

I would use it with many populations: autism/PDD, fine motor delay, CP, TBI,
ADHD, etc.
I would use it with ages 4 and up as long as the patient could follow
directions enough not to throw the controller or anything like that. As for
documentation, I would write about it like any other modality: Patient
completed visual motor task with fair ability to blah blah.

Let me know if you find any research on this because I would love to present
it to my boss to try to get a Wii for our clinic.

Hello,I am doing a little research for a grant that I will be writing soon (in
order to get a Wii for my school that I work in). I am looking for any
therapists who can share their experience with using the Wii as a therapy tool
with children or adults. I would be willing to call you to talk since I have
lots of questions about using it....so if anyone would like a chat, please
email me back and we can talk. My specific questions (for now is, but I know as
I start this project I will have more)What age group do you use it with? What
disability group are you using it with? What games are you using, and why did
you chose that/those game(s)?How do you take documentation when using it as a
therapeutic tool? What results have you seen?Do you know of any research
articles written? (I have only seen anecdotal things on the web). My
administrator and I are meeting soon, so anything that you have would help me
in this venture would be greatly appreciated! I know there are a lot of
people that respond to this listserve, so I thank you in advance. Angela B.
