Thanks Ron and all Re; Community Re-entry program
You're very right...we have to do a lot of education from the day of
admission to 1) understand what client's goals and needs are and 2) Have them
understand the Occupation based treatment they will be involved in. We have
posted pictures (with permission) on a display board of former clients going
on the outtings and performing the tasks, We have an introductory little group
semiar for education and printed flyers and materals. We have the admissions
department educate patients and family members about the program prior to
their admission to the facility.
We have training material for the other therapists PT or OTto increase
their understanding of the interventions that will take place in the program.
We've done regular inservices to staff.
And overall we average about 4 clients per week that go in this program or
somewhere between 12 and 15 per month(sometimes more in the busy winter
months). Most of these clients also have a home evaluation done with their OT
prior to home discharge discharge. I average about 1 home eval a
week...sometimes 2!
The work is a great deal of however, the frustration is mainly in lack of
understanding that we encounter at the beginnig of the process where you have
to lay the foundation of understanding about OT and all the things you
mentioned in your recent postings.
Sometimes I just wish I didn't have to work so hard to be understood....but
that's the nature of the business.
Take Care
