In many states the "L" designates that the you have a minimal standard
that 
has been approved by a governing body of professionals.   I do support
NBCOT 
and therefore the "R" has never been an issue for me, 
As a professional that trains students after they pass the course they
can be 
an "OT" the R/L states that you are beyond that. More than just
graduated. I 
think it builds consumer confidence and adds credibility to your name.
