I am a first time writer but have followed the list for some time now. I
just found out some news that I wanted to share. I live in Pittsburgh,
PA where UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) pretty much
dominates our system out here. CRS (Centers for Rehab Services) is owned
by UPMC and therefore is in acute, skilled, outpt. settings. I heard
from an OT that works for them that CRS was eliminating all OT's in the
acute care units b/c it is a duplication of services!!! Is this the
beginning of our end? Is this because it's so easy to group patients,
give them a dowel rod and tell them to count to 20? Is this because I
get patients in home care with a THR and 5/5 UE strength complain to me
about all the arm exercises, cones, clothespins and folding clothes that
the OT made them do? Is this because that same patient with a THR has no
idea about any hip precautions, AE for LB dressing, jt protection tech,
tub seats,BSC, etc? I think it is all because of the OT's who only focus
on the arms and NOTHING else. I wish they would do us a favor and find
another profession before we all have to. What is it going to take? I am
extremely fearful for our profession. Thoughts/comments?

If anyone else works for the system and my information is incorrect as
this was from a friend, please share the correct information.
