Hi All;
This is meant to be a thought provoking informal poll. Here's the
question...

"Is the title 'Occupational Therapist' a barrier to the general public's
understanding and / or to the status of our profession?"

*"Small Effect on OT professions status"
"No impact on OT professions Status"
"Significant Barrier to OT profession's status."

or separately "Never considered it before."
*
Situation:
I am looking for a informal poll of all of you on our title. The title
"Occupational Therapist" has been a barrier to me in describing what we do.

Background:
In a recent poll 500 American's completed a survey on Healthcare. Of these
52% "don't know" and 29.2% thought OT was about jobs, work or career (81.2%
in total). 14.2% had a fairly good definition of OT.
(Removing Healthcare workers: 54% don't know... 29% work related (83% of the
general public don't know what OT does or think it's about work) and only
12.3% with a pretty good definition.)

By contrast ~11% of respondents reported that they didn't know what Physical
Therapy was.

Please contact aloft....@gmail.com if you would like a breakdown of the
data.

We will have a discussion in a follow up email.

Thanks for your participation,

Ed Kaine, OTR/L, RFT
