What do you mean by having multiple versions of the provider being loadable? Typically, the IMSProvider code is simple, almost a template that isn't much different between implementations, aside from the logon method. The trick is to have a clear, thread-safe separation between tables and shared data.
Do you need help currently with the service provider portion of this project?
This is just the point I was at when I had to start looking on the calendar protocol ( settled on CalDAV for now ). Part of the problem is that we simply need more hands.
The provider init method implementation is suppose to detect that previous objects have been initialized, and return that instead. It was not a problem, but I need to start nailing down how the connector will behave on the wire, and what server-side software would be needed, so I switched focus to that.
It might be a good starting point if you grab CVS and see where we're at.
