I've read the page: I think he's confusing a "mailing list" with a "distribution list".One reason brought up is that it is implemented by overwriting the Reply-To: header and many people rely on that header to properly route their emails. In a mailing list I don't usually even need to know the address of the original sender: it's an open place where everybody talks to everybody, a "subscription newsgroup over email".
It is nowadays a standard configuration for a mailing list to mangle reply-to, and users generally expect it. Demonstration is that me and others have mistakefully replied to senders only, not including the ML.
And I swear I can "reply to all" :-)
Moreover, if I "reply to all", as I'm doing now, I think you, Charles and Philippe will receive two copies of the message, which is annoying.
I usually have to "reply to all", then remove all non-ML addresses before sending, change ML address from CC to TO and then send.
