It doesnt have to be pop3 all the time. You could also install sendmail on your otrs sever and use procmail / .forward to get the mail into otrs.
I think this is described in the otrs manual or install documentation. Then you set up forwarding in exchange to forward mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Of course your Exchange server needs to be able to find a MX record for otrs.domain.com. This will bing your mail into otrs. I run it this way for a couple of years now and have added other aliases ([EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]) that are forwarded via exchange to their respective counterpart ([EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]) and each goes into their own queue. Also if you work with whoever does the security at your place and you explain your need, they might add a specfic rule to allow port 110 from your particular IP address. I really don't know much about mail protocols, but Since they seem to even block it to other external mail servers, I am guessing they think its a security risk maybe. Too much formality also! AFAIK Exchange supports POP3, but it needs to be explicitly enabled.
