Yes, but at least it installs the dependencies (which can be quite a
hassle if you don't know what you're doing)

I'm also installing from source on my Ubuntu box.
A point of criticism:

* You should really publish patches from one minro version to the next
  It's easier to install a patch over an existing installation...
