Hi Richard,
I read with great mirth your tale of keyboard shenanigans!
The answer to your question is: "More than likely!"
I have connected many a USB (Micro$oft) mouse and keyboard to (even pre USB)
Macs without a hiccup.
...funny that you still need to install MS drivers onto an MS operating
system to get the USB beasties going on a PC, but thats another story...
I currently run a cordless keyboard/mouse from LogiTech (The Navigator
Series) that runs great by just plugging the things in. OSX and OS9 are
supported with software to allow customisation of the various buttons and
scroll wheel speed etc... In OSX (unsure of OS9), no other 'driver' type
installation is necessary to get the mouse or keyboard running, just plug in
and away you go.
Beware the cheaper keyboards and mice, these will more than likely require
Mac drivers and even then may well crash out your machine to boot.
The name brands seem to be extremely Mac friendly, even more so than being
PC friendly (for exactly the reason noted above).
Cheers
