Another suggestion: your G5 should have come with a Hardware Test CD - stick it in the drive and restart the machine with the C-key held down until you get the "Loading" screen. The test might give you some indication as to the condition of the RAM.

Hi Everyone,

I just got a G5 to make my life a bit easier ( I work in After Effects for a living, so half of what I do is rendering - yawn!). Despite having waited for os 10.3 before moving to X, I still seem to be having serious problems.

I only have 2 key apps installed: After Effects 5.5 and Final Cut 4.1, but both seem to suffer kernal panics (ie. total OS crash) between a couple and dozens of times per day. It has also crashed in Safari, and on the screensaver with these two apps idle in the background. I have also had the apps themselves go into "not responding" modes nearly as many times.

I've tried reseating the RAM (2.5gb applied dealer supplied), taking out all the RAM except what was originally supplied (2x256), clean OS reinstall, update to latest G5 firmware, reinstalling the apps. No luck so far.

Any suggestions - it's killing me!

TIA

Scott
