In all these cases, restarting with shift held down does not work.
I can happily boot into 8.0 and 7.5.5 on other volumes, and I can always boot off the OS9 CD-ROM I'm using (actually an iMac install CD) but not off the volume I wanted to use as my startup disk.
Does anyone have a suggestion? Google can't tell me anything meaningful about what "Couldn't load CDEF" means or about any of the other error codes in my situation. Should I run 9.1 instead of 9.0? I didn't do any 3rd party software installs e.g. Micro$oft Office. Or is the problem with my iMac install CD itself? I used it successfully on my 5500 without this problem occurring though.
