When I had Optus cable internet installed, they wouldn't officially support Mac OS X. The guy who did the connection had no idea, but it took all of 5 minutes to complete once the hole was drilled! Simplest installation he had ever seen. And I've never had to make use of their support service. Ever.
So I reckon it comes down to fear/reluctance/marginalisation... Plain, old-fashioned ignorance.

AFAIK, Macs are just as connectable as any other computer, perhaps moreso.
There isn't any reason that *I* can think of, though obviously iPrimus have some reason or other. You're quite right in saying the Macs are just as connectable as anything else, and I would have thought support costs would be lower as well (since they 'just work' most of the time - saving support calls...)
