Colin, thank your son for providing the impetus to re-explore the Windows
port.
Windows doesn't support the filesystem (no fuse) nor the W1 kernel bus
master of course. I also have my doubts about the DS2482-X00 i2c bus
masters, but I haven't tested that.
I spent sometime time coaxing the windows binary and installer, it's now on
Sourceforge. https://sourceforge.net/projects/owfs/
If your son wants to test it out and offer any suggestions of fixes, I'd be
pleased. This was generated on XP-32bit (in a virtual machine), so I can't
speak to Win7.
USB has some issues:
1. You will be directed to the libusb-win32 site to download and install
the windows libusb driver (version 0.12.1)

2. Even so, you need the ds9490.inf file found at C:\Program
Files\OWFS\drivers for the USB hardware install wizard.
3. Windows Firewall may ask you about owserver

Of course, this is to get owserver or owhttpd to run on Windows. You can
always access owhttpd running on Linux or Mac from Windows with no effort.
There is also a Visual Basic access module which could be a nice
development platform for using 1wire under Windows.
