Here is an example of my bus:

amd64:/home/paul # ls /mnt/1wire/
.  ..  01.8660BE090000  06.8FD62D000000  bus.0  settings  statistics
structure  system  uncached

And here I look at the "thermostat" directory:

amd64:/home/paul # ls /mnt/1wire/thermostat
.  ..  polarity  temperature  temphigh  templow  type

But there is no real DS1821 here!

This is a fundemental problem with the non-addressed 1-wire chips. You
have to talk to them blindly.

There is choice to be made: always include "thermostat" in the
directory listing to show it might be there, or make people call the
thermostat blindly.

What is the best solution? I worry about confusing the vast majority
of users rather than the few (experienced) thermostat users. Clearly
we need better documentation if even you were confused!

The same problem happens with humidity in the DS2438 and thermocouple
in the DS27xx chips. There we chose the other option.

All this doesn't say that thermostat support works. It hasn't been
tested and I depend on your reports.
