1. Simple adapters (the DS9097E) work well with OWFS. We had a problem with them
1.5 years ago, but it's been solved. In fact some of my production monitoring
uses them, with uptime >9 months.

2. Leonid's adapter seems to use the same RS232 control pins and power source,
so I'm not surprised it works, just wanted to confirm. In that case, I'll just
add the Vcc control and a filesystem interface, and the DS1821 will be
supported.

3. We will still have the same "semi-blind" problem with the DS1821 -- it
doesn't support 1-wire addressing.

4. There are a few non-addressable 1-wire chips. The DS1821, DS2705, DS2434
DS2435 ... (see http://www.owfs.org/index.php?page=standard_slaves). I wonder if
we shouldn't have a better way to support them.
  A. Move them to a new "NoAddress" directory (need a better name)
  B. In "NoAddress" use a (slow) blind dialing approach to see if any respond.

that is funny (maybe it is not, I will compare shematics later,
http://www.elektroda.net/dla_kompa/ds1820/ds9097e.gif looks similar) but that
interface DOES work with 32bit timex API!

I did that adaptor like Lenoid wanted and it works with _his_ program and
ds1821.

Then I have disconnected 1821 and put 1820 in the place, and Timex viewer does
show that device! I did not test any other DS**** that I own.

I will check owfs later and post my results here. In the past you told me that
simple http://www.elektroda.net/dla_kompa/ds1820/ds9097e.gif adaptors simply
does not work with owfs, or I have a memory hole in my brain?
