I was thinking something like /system/adapter and have an istance for
every adapter both local and remote.
 
Then again, would there be any harm at having it under both /bus.# and
under /system

        Do you mean somthing like:
        /system/bus.n/overdrive ?
        
        It could get a little awkward with remote owserver:
        /bus.x/system/bus.y/overdrive 
        
        But not impossible.
