Correct. Although it looks like a filesystem, it really is devices that are
polled. There is a facility on the 1-wire bus to generate a pulse when a new
devices in plugged in, but it's hard to use in our envirinment. (Other
communication can obscure it, and the serial or USB ports aren't good at
seeing random pulses).

The entry under "simultaneous" called "present" is a faster way to scan for
the first device's existence.
