I don't know a more appropriate forum for this so I'm just going to throw this idea out for discussion (or ridicule as the case may be :) we can quickly take any discussion elsewhere if needed.
I was working with my Simat 1-Wire hub the other day and found it to be a little annoying trying to remember which devices were where. So I got to thinking about the filesystem metaphor which in turn led to the thought: Wouldn't it be convenient to be able to rename the DS2409 addresses/branches to something more friendly? Or even the device addresses themselves? So rather than using a pathanme like /tmp/1wire/ 1F.xxxxxxxxx/main/26.xxxxxxxx/VAD you could use something like /tmp/ 1wire/basement/sump-pump-battery/VAD. Kind of the same idea as using domain names instead of IP addresses to navigate the web: names are easier for humans to remember than numbers. I realize there would be some issues in retaining this info across reboots, etc., perhaps there could be a config file to contain the mapping. In any case I thought I'd toss the idea out there. Is this just a nit or does this idea have any value?
