Mike, After I wrote that last message I started to think about it and looked at the schematic. My bad... I had installed the solar detector backwards. This essentially shorted the dq line to ground through one diode drop and a 390 ohm resistor. Correcting that solved the problem. I have another question though but I will start another thread.
