Update for everyone, i've got the slave code mostly working on my arduino.
I used avr-libc code though, so should be easy to port to any atmega or attiny
class chip.
I'll post it somewhere once it's polished and working consistently, but for now
here's the output of it from the 'tstfind' command in the maxim reference
implementation (i know, party foul for not using OWFS)

mine is (1). (2) is the usb 1-wire adapter

Subject: [Owfs-developers] How can i get a slave serial number allocated?
Hi folks,
This one's probably mostly for Paul, but Pascal might know too :)
I'm doing some solar heat collection automation, and i was going to try and
hook an arduino (well, actually just an AVR, but close enough) up to the 1-wire
bus, so i could have all my info in the same place.
I'd have to write some code to emulate a 1-wire slave device, and i was
wondering if I can just pick any slave ID/serial #/family ID or if there is a
special experimental range.
Hope someone on here knows the answer.
Cheers
