I ended up getting all my DS28EA00 (50 units) from http://farnell.com They were not cheap but did have stock and the delivery cost was way less than $35US so overall the outcome was ok for me. Another alternative might be to go the route of the AVR Mega8/16/88/168 Firmware Slave device that has been talked about recently.
