hi Alex,
Doing a simultaneous temp conversion on several (3+) parasite powered chips
may consume more power than the master is capable to provide on the DQ line.
I guess that your connected DS28EA00 is not powered by vcc and reset itself
when DQ become too weak to supply enough power...
The immediate fix is of course to supply 5v to vcc at least for this
critical chip... but you may also check if your master support advanced
pullup features which allows more juice to be supplied during conversions.
For example, a ds2490 in default mode is supplying 6mA on DQ, but up to 30mA
with active pullup mode and up to 50mA with strong pullup mode which will
support simultaneous conversions on dozen parasite powered chips ...
