Hmmm, sounds like a floating Vdd pin on one (or more) of the DS18B20's
(your power connection really isn't).  If you float the +5V pin on a
DS18B20, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

BTW, did you realize the LinkUSB has 70ma of +5V power at the connector?
