Hi all,
my problem is a little bit off-topic (because not specific to owfs), but
maybe in this forum are the experienced 1-Wire net experts ;-)
I want to replace in an existing building the 12 analog temperature sensors
by 1-Wire DS18B20 temp sensors. The used cables are standard telephone
twisted pair which are shielded together. They are in star-topology, so each
of the 12 cable come from a different room (10m to 50m length each) to the
central controller. So the complete net have a "weight" of approx 350m.
The cables shall be reused, because it would be a hell a lot of effort to
replace them too.
That's certainly a challenge.
1. Power the devices
2. Use ethernet (NON-shielded) cable and follow the cabling plan
proposed by David Lissuk
3. Use a DS2409 switch at each master with one master for each of the
two branches
4. Connect the shorter of each branch to the AUX port of the DS2409
(important)
5. Do not terminate anything. Just adds load.
6. Try the iButton Link adapter for really funky situations. Supposedly
this adjusts automatically and works well.
This should make things stable.
Otherwise, look forward to a lot of tinkering and.. even if you get it
working, something external will upset the network and you'll likely
have to start over.
