I just uploaded 2.8p13+dfsg1-4 with --disable-owmalloc. The spurious
messages at start time disappear on my computer. Report here (or in a
Debian bug report) if there are still any problems.
Note that, if you upgrade manually your packages, do not forget to
upgrade the lib itself (libow-2.8-13)
