I recently learned that while digging into (very) deep with the DS2490
and owfs: after digging through many sources (also beyond owfs) it was
the first time I understood why people at all add resistors and diodes
to their 1w: mainly to hide SW-problems!
HW guys do it that way, understand that also, I'd still want to solve
the SW-problems at it's root - in SW ;)
Yours is not a new idea.. however there are good reasons for making
physical adjustments to the one wire net. Unfortunately these are often
dictated by individual circumstances, and are usually to help situations
that could be avoided by other physical design problems. My experience
suggests that although the switching frequency is relatively low,
reflections, ringing, and damping are challenges that may be addressed
by both sides of the house. As One Wire masters permit some adjustments
for timing issues, software is therefore useful; as it is for performing
resets and re-attempts. It can be "fun" to sort out the culprits. Such
an exercise is made sane when one begins with a simple and stable
network first.
