Browser stuff is easy if they use Chrome or Firefox - just make sure personal data is synced to a Firefox account or Google account (as appropriate).

Preserving personal files (photos etc) is the more difficult bit. I guess you could sync to an external USB3 SSD & copy the files back after the install.

Communicating clearly to people that this is a process that could go wrong & eat all their data & they need backups first is going to be the tricky part I suspect!

Yes if there was an easy way to sort out things like porting the Browser stuff

Installing Linux on a non-windows 11 capable PC sounds like a service you could
offer at a Repair Café event maybe?

Eg

but I’m sure there are others.

Hi all,
I'm new to mailing lists, in fact this is the first time I use one. After
quickly glancing at the list of threads, I can see that it's been quiet here
for a while.

One of my intentions is to revive this community, I don't know what it used to
be and when it used to be it, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the same as
it was before, things evolve.

What I really wanted, was to find somewhere where I could get some input and
ideas for leaflets to post to people's doors or something about the end of
windows 10 and to not throw away their computers. This would be an overall good
thing for everyone, the new users will have a better, faster, more free OS, and
the linux users number will increase encouraging companies to consider linux
support more seriously, for example Mediatek with no linux drivers for their
new wifi chips (I just replaced the wifi chip in my my mum's new laptop and
didn't complain enough yet :) ).

I have recently found out about oxford LUG, and would like to know if anyone
else here has anything simillar planned, whatever stage it's at - even if it's
just pondering about it. Working together would benefit us all.
If anyone wants to see my current draft, I can maybe upload a
screenshot or the document file if that's possible here

I also recently came across these, which are worth considering:
