We experienced this delay only with the update 2 of the Java 1.6.0
virtual machine from Sun Microsystems, that is Java version 1.6.0_02. It
was already recorded as a bug in Sun's database:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6578753
and we added a note on the Download page that this JVM update is not
supported due to this bug. Is your Java version 1.6.0_02? You can see
that in the System properties tab of the Help -> About dialog, the
java.vm.version property.
