Every aspect of .NET is really a combination of things that make it awesome.
First and foremost, is a great IDE, tooling is where MS got it right, and it's what makes people like it. Also as someone has mentioned the .NET Framework, a lot of C# is syntax sugar, and which relies on the framework as well, e.g. foreach relies on IEnumerable in essence. I think the great thing about C# is , depending on how creative you are, you can write some very nice and clean code, but it can also be open to abuse, and with all the new features coming into play, it certainly becomes a little daunting to read.
