The small kindle is very light and quite small. The DX, I think, would be the 
smallest you could get to read A4 PDFs (at least in portrait mode)

Did you go with the DX like Ken suggests? I note that it's around
twice the price! But I think I'd mostly be reading PDFs on it.

I was going to get the DX, but decided not to in the end. I was convinced by 
other Kindle owners that I know that the smaller model is very comfortable to 
use and perfectly adequate for reading books and viewing documents with 
diagrams. Having used an iPad, I actually find them too big to use comfortably 
for long periods - the DX is the same size as an iPad. I figure if I need the 
bigger screen on occasion I can always use a laptop/desktop. The DX also 
doesn't come with wifi - although until I use it I won't know how relevant that 
is. Given all this and the price, the DX just didn't seem like a value 
proposition for me.
