While not directly answering your question, there is a product I used to use
which hosted multiple versions of IE in a single browser (i.e. you could
make a new 'tab' of any version of IE you want). I can't recall the name but
a quick Google turns up this: http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE which is
similar and should do the job for you...

Good luck with making something work well in modern bowsers AND ie6. :(
