Hyper-V Server is also free, but you need to get used to using the command-line
because there's no GUI.

Subject: RE: [OT] ESXi install failure

Greg, a friend tells me that ESXi operates on strict hardware requirements, and
there is a web page that gives some guidelines.
Are you using an ISO file install, or from plastic?

Yes, some more reading hints that it is indeed very fussy, and it looks like my
1 year old dev box is built from various parts that are not suitable. I was
installing from an ISO I downloaded (after a bit of searching) and burnt to a
CD.

A friend just suggested I try Hyper-V Server
2008<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-V> and
HERE<http://www.microsoft.com/hyper-v-server/en/us/default.aspx>.

I have seen this disc in my MSDN packet for ages and wondered what it did, now
I'm about to run an experiment and find out.

Greg
