Have you thought about making the picture box size dynamic? i.e. having a
"space" on your form in which the picturebox can expand in or shrink and
dynamically setting the size and centering based on the size of the photo
the user uploads?

just a thought. when i had this problem, i drew my own bitmap when an image
was uploaded and filled in any blanks with black.
