I have whatsapp on WP7, works well Apps that run on wp7 will also run on wp8.. Correct?

But if I go into a Telstra shop or typically phone shop I typically see on the racks 2 x iPhone (black & white) 10 x Android 1 (maybe 2) x WP7 Doesn't matter how much you advertise if they are not on the shelves. iPhone can get away with it because they are so well known now.
