Yes but you missed the point: new OS generally does mean new features, some of which you may only get on new devices (this goes without saying). What’s unacceptable (at least for most of us) is that existing devices will _not_ run applications that target the new version of the OS _and_ that there is no way for existing devices to upgrade to a version of the OS that will run those apps.
Exclusions to this expectation are: - At some point there always needs to be a cut off for which older devices won’t be able to get the new OS. For Apple this is typically vN-2. - There are some applications that specifically target new features of the OS that will only run on new hardware (eg they use a new sensor that isn’t available on older devices), in which case there is an expectation that these won’t work on old hardware.
