I bought myself a bar table to use as a standing desk at home, in the
evenings. It's fixed height, but it's actually a perfect height for me
(YMMV).

Initially I found it surprisingly hard, and my feet hurt. I brought over a
bar stool which I now use if I want to slack off, though I'm definitely
using the stool less and less.

At work I'm still sitting, but enslaved by the activity monitor on my wrist
I have to get up and walk every hour. That's a great place to start I
reckon.

Two colleagues are now using varidesk-type setups. It's tempting.
