I have the VariDesk Pro, purchased a couple of months ago. It is well made and well priced. It allows you to easily change heights and utilises an existing desk top surface.
I change from sitting to standing every couple of hours or so. I also stand on a carpet to reduce the foot stress. (my floor is wood). Make sure that there are no cups of tea or other objects that can come within the descent path of the desk. Also make sure that any mouse cables, network cables etc can freely move within the height range. - I have clipped the cables such that the desk and table top surface provide a fixed reference point and there are no pinch points. I watched a television documentary not so long ago which provided a catalyst to get off my butt and get one. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/31TVF5dHY342pN9pPgJ30rg/the-big-standing-up-experiment) . For me it is not a remarkable change, as I am fairly active. However I think it helps me deal with the sleepy periods of the afternoon. I have always moved around because of back issues, this will hopefully maintain or improve the issues. If anything I am slouching less due to a concious effort to change posture, and on the few occasions where I need to do a 12 hour day I won't suffer the next 4 days.
