Denise, thank you for your reply. I am aware of the frustation that must exist within the ACMI. i am not trying to pour scorn on what i am sure is individual hard work but........... and yes i always find a problem. The need for increasing ACMI membership is not so that it can act. It needs to act so as to be of purpose and seen to be something worthwhile. I have made no attempt at hiding my disdain at the situation of ineffective and splintered midwifery groups or my reluctance at joining the ACMI. This was largely because of the rather apathetic "poor us" stand point. A suggestion the ACMI organisational skills (there must be some ) could be used to ballot midwives into action, and here is the thing the midwives which the ACMI communicates with don't have to be ACMI members. I have met many wonderful midwives who ask why be a member of an expensive voiceless and toothless association or who have experience of its ineffectuality who would rush to join if the ACMI did rather than moan or pat itself on the back for tiny victories in a losing war. Thanks to trish schneider Cathy myself and any other midwife who will act around here will be sending a letter calling for action politically and physically. Perhaps then we can see who will lie down and perish or who will be with women fighting for the right to be informed and to choose the most individual appropriate care for them without fear or uncertainty. Pardon me for wittering. But i did warn everyone that i have awoken from apathy! yours inmidwifery Nigel. --- denise hynd <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Dear Nigel and Cathy, > As one who has been both busy and frustrated in the > ACMI state and now > national levels. > Untill we havew more members we need less work not > more I agree there is > need for such matters as > and until we represent more 10% of Aust midwives > whilst who knows how many > belong to ANF without ACMI we can notAt 17:06 > 9/07/99 -0700, you wrote: > >Dear Kerry, > > > >I too hate the term witchhunt and am appalled that > in the vastly > >unprofessional field of obstetrics only a doctor > supportive of > >homebirthing and ? midwifery care is brought up for > their actions. > >Why? > >It is not enough for us to declare how unjust the > situation is to each > >other we are the people who know the wrongs of the > situation. > > > >After eventually joining the ACMI because of a > reduced number of viable > >options i would like to tentatively ask.
