Hi everyone - just another topic for discussion
A trend is starting to appear where some medico's are testing,
during pregnancy, not just haemoglobin but ferritin levels as well - leading
frequently to diagnosis of iron deficiency anaemia despite normal
Hb.
It is my understanding that with normal physiology of
pregnancy, haemodilution leads to a drop in serum ferritin demonstrating iron
transfer from storage to use. Therefore lowered ferritin levels do not
represent iron deficiency in later pregnancy.
Can anyone expand my information and references on this matter
?
