We have been using balls for over 18 months now with no
restrictions in their use (except in the bath- one woman tried
this!! or with a heavily anaesthetised epidural) and have had no untoward
incidences or injury. Women use them for standing/kneeling against, leaning over
and sitting on. Useful for supporting the perineum whilst maintaining a semi
squat position, when sitting, also helpful for a tired woman to sit on and aid
her pelvic movements (rocking, tilting). Has been seen to negate the
obstetric 'dorsal' birth by using the ball as a back support on the bed
where the woman is able to then rise off her buttocks effecting a semi
squat in the bed. I have used one at home for 2 years now as a stool/chair
at the computer and praise their simpleness loud and long to anyone who will
listen!!
