Dear midwife friends and collegues, Tried to send this today but ?? Really hoping that someone in midwifery land can help I am looking for information about the management of pregnancy where the possibility of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) exists. CAH is an uncommon reccessive disorder which affects cortisone and aldosterone production. An affected individual needs oral replacement cortisone. I am 26 weeks pregnant with a baby that may be affected by CAH. The current treatment during pregnancy where the baby may be affected is oral dexamethasone. I am interested in hearing from anyone who has any information about the implications of the use of steroids in pregnancy. Another issue that I would like to addresss is that of the management of the baby at birth. Despite medical opposition, I am planning to birth my baby at home. As yet, I can find no Literature which describes any risk in doing so but I want to be as well informed as possible.
