There is some evidence to show pelvic floor exercise is an effective
treatment for genuine stree urinary incontinence.A recent search of the
literature located one systematic review and 4 randomized controlled
trials.
Berghmans, I.C.M., et al (1998) Conservative Treatment of Stress Urinary
Incontinence in Women: A Systematic Review of Randomized Clinical Trials.
British Journal of Urology, 82, 181-191.
This review showed there is aufficient evidence to conclude that PFM
exercises are an effective treatment for SUI.
Bo, K.,Talseth, T., & Holme,I., (1999) Sincle blind, randomised controlled
trial of pelvic floor exercises, electrical stimulation, vaginal cones and
no treatment in management of genuine stress incontinence in women. British
Medical Journal, 318 487-493.
This article showed PFM exercise is more effective than vaginal cones,
electrical stimulation and no treatment.
Both groups of authors are very well respected in the area of pelvic floor
research.
I will not list the other articles at the moment as time is against me.
