Hello Denise,
I am always listening to you all :-)
In Belgium we have to pay 867,63 EUR (1432,45 AUD) for insurance. It covers
costs to go in trial, damage payments..... We can go to every insurance
compagny, but the VLOV (organisation for flemish midwifes) made a
comfortable agreement with one compagny. We can call them or e-mail them
with questions and they are always very nice to advice.
For the parents here homebirth is the cheapest option to give birth. Every
penny is payed by the health insurance and people are obliged to be member.
When they give birth in hospital they have to pay at least 619 EUR ( 1.023
AUD) for an uncomplicated delivery.
It's a pity, most of the people don't know this and they are to afraid to
give birth at home. The gynaecologes are sitting on roses and they are
supporting the fear that excists because they get payed for prestation.
In the Netherlands is an other system. I don't know how much a homebirth
costs, but pregnant mothers have to see first the midwife or the GP. They
only can go to the gyn with a complication. When they opt for a hospital
birth without reason, they have to pay more. Gyns are payd monthly and it
doesn't matter how much deliverys they did.
I don't know anything on insurance in the Netherlands
I hope I was of some help for you
Lieve
