Dear Senator,

Thank you for reply. I accept that 1701 was a typographical error. Nevertheless, I feel that you still fail to recognise the safety of midwifery care. It is not a highly litigious area. An equal partnership is formed between a woman and her independent midwife. The woman is given unbiased, evidence-based information upon which she makes the decisions. Nothing is done to her without her consent.

There is good communication between a woman and her midwife. I believe that many cases before the courts are brought about through a woman's desire to just find out 'what happened' and the medical profession's refusal to 'give honest answers' and admit they made mistakes. I'm sure many women will tell you it's 'not about the money'. The insurance companys need to know this.

Yours sincerely,

Andrea Bilcliff.
