Hi Cheryl, 

thanks for alerting us to this article. I will be chasing up a copy of the 
SHS and will write in reply to the above statement citing the research from 
Tracy etal 2000, that found that for comparable groups of low risk women, 
that rates of obstetric intervention were highest in private patients of 
specialist obstetricians in private hospitals and LOWEST for public patients 
in public hospitals. 

'Doctors fear the shortage of obstetricians means more women will be 
forced to give birth in public hospitals.' 

We all need to keep vigilant in dispelling such myths that private obstetric 
care means better care!! Women need to know that they double their chances of 
instrumental birth, by choosing private obstetric care in a private hospital 
!!
