Dear Listers,
All this talk of problems with twin births brings to mind the birth(s)
of the Sara quads in Bellingen, a small country hospital in northern NSW, in
the mid 1950's. The births were managed by a G.P. and I am sorry I do not know
his name. These babies were born over a period of three days and were all healthy.
To the best of my knowledge, they were not sent to St Elsewhere and of course
it was in the days before epidurals. The G.P. acknowledged the team work which
involved the rest of the maternity staff, and was very proud of how well it
was managed and rightly so too. I have been told that he made a film of the
birth (before videos and VCR'S too) I have never seen this film but I would
really love to see it. Maybe someone from Bellingen is out there and could tell
us how to get hold of it. Or maybe Mrs Sara has a copy, I believe she lives
somewhere in Sydney these days. Concerning the breech second twin, since the
Canadian based Term Breech Trial was ceased, many obstetricians refuse to have
anything to do with vaginal breech births. Even though this trial was,in the
opinion of many, seriously flawed. Litigation rears it's ugly head again.
